If You're Busy, Skip to the Part About Hitchhiker's; It's Really Important.
Okay, I haven't posted in a
really long time. Like a month. This is partly because my Internet hasn't been working, but it only stopped working on Thursday, so that isn't much of an excuse. But no matter. There are many things to discuss:
Tribeca Film FestivalI went to the Tribeca Film Festival. But I can't think of what to say about it right now so I'll say it tomorrow or so.
I don't want to laugh about this.But I can't help it.
Riding the Bus with My Sister: Because everyone knows that developmentally disabled people always wear two different colored shoes. But seriously, I'm glad CBS chose to send the message that disabled people can still color-coordinate, even if those colors are robin's egg blue and pink. Either that, or they chose to say if you buy pink shoelaces, you are a retard. I'm not sure.
I can't help but think, though, that this wouldn't be nearly as funny if the developmentally disabled person wasn't played by Rosie O'Donnell. She is just hilarious. In fact, I figured out that how hilarious Rosie is is directly proportional to how serious she's trying to be. Like when she was in
A League of Their Own, eh, not so funny. But when she cut her hair and came out as a butch lesbian, it was
hilarious! So if she's trying to give the performance of a lifetime here, and how could she not be, this should be absolutely hysterical. Don't miss it on Sunday, May 1, at 9PM
The End-All, Be-All of Human Societyis finally here. Well, it will be in two days. Yes, I'm talking about
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Hopefully it will be great; I've built it up in my mind so much, if it's not that great, i will be immensely disappointed. But here's what I really wanted to mention.
I want to get as many people as possible to go with me. Really. Like everyone I know. So if I know you, and you want to go, call me up, or IM me or something. If you don't know my number, call up someone who would, and ask them. Adam probably knows it, and I'm almost positive everyone knows Adam's number. So contact me in some way and see when we're going. And call up all your friends and see if they want to go. Whether we go on Friday or on Saturday depends on something which I will talk about below.
One final note: if you're 18 and up to it, the movie is playing in the famous
Ziegfeld Theater in Manhattan. It's a huge theater: one huge screen and it seats somewhere near 1,200. It would be ultracool for a nerd like me to see it in such a big theater, but I can't drive into the city, and if there's a lot of us, public transportation is out of the question. So I would need one of my awesome-o friends who's 18 to drive some of us in. I'm not pressuring you or anything, but that would be a really nice thing to do, and I'm sure we could work something out as far as tolls and gas. Now on to the next bit of fun.
The Great Dictator at the Loews' JerseyThe Loews Jersey in Jersey City is an old theatre from the 1920's that truly is a movie palace. It's got crystal chandeliers and original murals and it's absolutely huge and exclusively shows classic movies. In honor of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, they're showing The Great Dictator, The Great Escape, and Patton, but Dictator is the only one I really want to see. It's a Charlie Chaplin movie, his first all-sound movie.
Thing is, my mom doesn't want to go, so I have to find someone (or a lot of people) who want to go with me. You wouldn't necessarily have to drive, but my mother doesn't want me to go alone, and, come to think of it, neither do I. I know thisn't a lot of people's idea of a good time, but if you trust me, I think you'll find you'll enjoy yourself. It's playing on Friday at 8:00, which would mean we wouldn't see Hitchhiker's until Saturday. This is what I'd like to do. However, if no one wants to go with me to see The Great Dictator, we'll go see Hitchhiker's on Friday.
Again, call me or IM me to see what's going on, or drop me a line at MySpace or something. But please see if you can come to one of these things. This is my first time really planning something, and I'm really not good at it, so I might not call anyone; I might just post it up here and leave it at that, hoping someone actually reads this thing.
Okay, so I think that's it. Sorry I wasn't very funny today, but I had to put these events out hee into cyberspace. I'll try to be my normal funny self by tomorrow, or at most, next week.
P.S. - If you can, try and read Hitchhiker's before you see the movie. It's real short - 130 pages or so, if my memory serves me, and it will enrich your life and make it more meaningful and happiness will embody your soul for the rest of your life, or at least until you finish the book. And if you haven't read it by the time we see the movie, I'll probably bug you until you do.
